I'm a life-long Trekkie, who has been deeply disappointed in the post-Enterprise content on offer. I've been hearing a lot of "Trek fans really need to watch The Orville" online, and have finally given in. Once I started,I couldn't stop. I've never binged anything like that before. 20+ episodes in about a day and a half. (It's a good thing I didn't have to work during that time, I'd never have survived.) To me, it feels like Trek. It's definitely different in some ways, but I love it.
Has anyone else watched it? Are you coming from a Trek-loving background, or watching it without that context? What do you think of the series so far?

I hadn't heard of that one. I grew up on Star Trek, so definitely interested. Where did you watch it?

Zab, Orville airs on Fox. I watched it on baloo [dot] co
Notes: Contains some dumb comedy, and suffers the Trek curse of struggling to find its feet in the early days, but it has the heart of a NextGen era series. You'll recognize a lot of the plots. They frequently merge two elements of old Trek stories together to form the spine of an episode. For example, there's a two-parter in season 2 that combines the concept of a long-term character issue from a DS9 character with that of a significant event in NextGen. I don't know if this is consciously or not, but given that Brannon Braga is in the writers' room... No, never mind. That doesn't answer the question. Braga sometimes ripped off his own work when he was still working on Trek, and there's no telling if even that was intentional.
