This month, our long fic for SU Book Club is Frectures by SpaceDimentio. I'm not usually a fan of AUs that change the story so drastically, especially ones that end up killing off most of the main characters in the series (and right from the beginning, at that), but this one had me hooked. I love the portrayal of Pink and watching her try to overcome her grief and guilt while also trying to find a sort of second start in life.

I'm very glad you recommended this fic, because I don't think I would have read it otherwise. It starts with Pearl and Garnet dying, the setting means that most of my favorite characters are either killed or never get to be born, and it centers on Pink Diamond, a character I enjoy learning about but don't have a strong emotional attachement to. So that was a hard sell. But it does a great job at exploring Pink and the relationships between the diamonds. Pink's growth in this story is very good to see, she gains a maturity she never did on the show and the way she deals with her trauma is pretty well handled. I also enjoyed seeing more of the Off-Colors, and I really liked what the author did with Rutile, giving Ru and Tile distinct personnalities. I'm not sure Pink would be a hugger though. Hugs seem to be more of a Steven thing and not something Gems would be comfortable with. I also disagree a bit with the authors interpretation of the relationship between Pink and Pearl. I'm sure Pearl learned to fight of her own volition and wanted to be with Pink, but I don't think it would have ever occured to Pink to repeatedly ask her to leave - the way she ordered her never to tell her secret shows that there was still some unhealthy power imbalance there. Other than that, it was an enjoyable read, so thanks for the rec!
